⭐Title: The transactional interpretation of quantum mechanics
⭐Abstract:
In this seminar I introduce the Transactional Interpretation (TI) of quantum mechanics, a time-symmetric approach to the quantum measurement problem developed in the 1980s by John G. Cramer. I first formulate the measurement problem in terms of John von Neumann’s distinction between two kinds of time evolution in quantum mechanics, “Process 1” and “Process 2.” Then I introduce the basic framework of TI, showing how it provides a solution to the measurement problem. I also discuss how TI was developed as an extension of the Wheeler-Feynman absorber theory, a time-symmetric approach to classical electrodynamics developed by J. A. Wheeler and Richard Feynman. Finally, as a specific example, I discuss an application of TI to a sequential Stern-Gerlach experiment.
